John Kerry - Despicable Candidate #1 Many people don’t know anything about John Kerry. If they did they’d be defecting from his support in droves. Even most of those who think they know Kerry, really don't. We're going to try to rectify that.Kerry says a lot of things (all of which he’ll flip/flop on later, many times), but actions speak louder than words (and with Kerry, words speak louder than words). Although Kerry later claimed that he didn't become an anti-war activist until after seeing the horrors of war and being released from the Navy, this is not true. Kerry was anti-war in college. Read this article from the Harvard Crimson. He also claimed that he joined the Navy out of a sense of patriotic duty. Again, this is not true. As reported by the Harvard Crimson, just before graduating from college Kerry contacted the draft board, asking for a one year deferment so that he could continue his studies in France. The draft board denied his request. Before the army could draft him, where he most likely would have been sent to Vietnam in the infantry, he joined the Navy.
